Editorial: How the Catholic Church Promotes Atheism

The Catholic Church in Belgium recently released an independent report detailing hundreds of assertions of sexual abuse of children by priests and others working for the church from the 1950s into the late 1980s.
This is a sad truth that reminds us that history repeats itself. Pope Benedict XVI, a former member of the Nazi Youth, has repeatedly said the Vatican will seek justice for victims. What kind of justice can be given?
For the victims in these particular reports, the abusers are long deceased. What justice can you give a child who has been abused? Can you give them back their childhood? When your innocence is ripped from you at such an early age, how can there ever be justice?
Benedict said the church must “insistently beg forgiveness from God.” Does their begging of forgiveness grant them access to Heaven?
The Catholic religion is a failure of morality in the modern age. To illustrate this point let’s compare the Church’s stands on child molestation to their stance on suicide.
This is a religion that condemns to Hell those who choose to take their own lives. It takes away the right to bury your child who committed suicide even if he or she believed and followed the religion their whole life.
The Bible states that when you die if you ask God for forgiveness he will grant you into Heaven as long as your remorse is true. “If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus… you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9)
So, if you molest children then the Pope tells you to beg forgiveness, and I am willing to bet the Church will also grant your family permission to have a Catholic funeral upon your death. However, if you hurt only yourself then they take it upon themselves to be God, to judge and condemn you to Hell, and take away your family’s rights to have the funeral they desire.
How do these child abusers make it past the Catholic system? McDonald’s does better background checks than the Church. Most jobs require fingerprinting, a criminal background check for felonies or otherwise, credit checks, and they have to be perfect before an applicant can even be considered.
How can you miss the signs that are so clear before your eyes? The Catholic Church that deems just about anything to be a sin lets sin walk through their doors ever day. They tell us to repent, they tell us to believe in their God.
I can't believe in their God, when it is their faith that says those who take their own lives will suffer for eternity for deciding to leave this Earth. Many of these molested children kill themselves for what was done to them - what was taken from them - and Catholics say they will go to Hell. Yet, child molesting priests will be forgiven as long as they are alive to beg for it.
I don't laugh in the face of religion or deny that a God exists, but if the God the Catholic Church believes in is the true God, I choose atheism; I choose not to believe such evil exists and has authority over the smallest speck of existence.
